Aiston Preserve Opens to the Public!

Lummi Island Heritage Trust (LIHT) officially opened the Aiston Preserve on July 15th!  The preserve, previously a rock and gravel mine, has been completely transformed into a community oasis, with new trails, and trees planted by a team of volunteers. Methow Community Comes Together to Save 1200-Acre Ranch

The Methow Conservancy has protected Sunny M Ranch forever!  The campaign to save the land was truly a community effort, with over $8.7 million raised in just five and a half months. The 1200-acre ranch will now be stewarded by the Methow Conservancy on behalf of the community, in support of wildlife habitat, farmland, trail access, and affordable housing. A Grant Ensures the Continued Stewardship of a Historic Site

San Juan Preservation Trust received the Washington State Heritage Capital Grant to make repairs on the historic buildings located on the Marilyn and Fred Ellis Preserve on Shaw Island. The repairs will allow long term stewardship and cultural historical education at the regional heritage site. 

115-Acre Cattle Farm Protected Forever

Jefferson Land Trust has protected Egg And I Angus Farm in the Chimacum Creek Watershed forever! The historic 115-acre cattle farm is run by mother-daughter-duo Laurie Hannan and Julie Nottingham. 10 Acres of Farmland Conserved in the Dungeness Hub

- Successes

North Olympic Land Trust recently protected Dungeness Hub forever!  This will conserve nearly 10 acres of prime farmland soils and over 300 feet of Dungeness River bank that holds habitat for several salmon species. This is the 25th local farm that NOLT has worked with the community to permanently protect. 4,500 Acres Conserved in the Greater Oak Creek Wildlife Area

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) and Forterra worked together to conserve 4,500 acres at Cowiche Creek.  RMEF worked with the family landowners to identify a pathway to conserve their land. When it came time to sell, Forterra purchased the land until WDFW could buy the property. Cowiche Creek has been added to the greater Oak Creek Wildlife Area.…

A Win Along the Methow River

Methow Conservancy has conserved RiverRock Ranch. through working with the owners, John Schoettler and Jeff Clapsaddle, who generously donated 32 acres of their property. This habitat includes part of the Methow River which supports Chinook salmon, steelhead trout, and bull trout.  Photo credit: Martha Wave

A Community Effort Saves Mid Valley Farm
